Day rate calculator
To get a daily rate from a salary, multiply the monthly pay by 12 and divide by the days worked in a year: at 5 days a week that is 260, so 3,000 a month is about 138.46 a day. For a part month, divide the monthly pay by that month's working days and multiply by the days worked. Works in any currency; nothing is saved.

Worked examples
| Monthly pay | Per day (260 days a year) | Per day (22-day month) |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | 46.15 | 45.45 |
| 2,000 | 92.31 | 90.91 |
| 3,000 | 138.46 | 136.36 |
| 4,000 | 184.62 | 181.82 |
| 5,000 | 230.77 | 227.27 |
| 8,000 | 369.23 | 363.64 |
The two columns differ because a year of 260 working days averages 21.67 days a month. The first column is the steady daily rate; the second is what a single 22-day month works out to. Singapore's Ministry of Manpower uses the first shape for its daily rate, (12 x monthly pay) / (52 x days a week), and the part-month method above for incomplete months.

Quoting a freelance day rate?
A salary's day rate leaves out holidays, gaps between contracts and your own costs. Work out a day rate that covers them.
Freelance rate calculatorFrequently asked questions
How do I calculate a daily rate from a monthly salary?
Multiply the monthly salary by 12 and divide by the days worked in a year. At 5 days a week that is 260 days, so 3,000 a month is 36,000 a year and about 138.46 a day.
How do I calculate pay for an incomplete month?
Divide the monthly salary by the number of working days in that month, then multiply by the days actually worked. 3,000 a month in a month with 22 working days, of which 15 were worked, is 3,000 / 22 x 15 = 2,045.45. This is also the formula Singapore's Ministry of Manpower uses.
How do I turn an hourly rate into a day rate?
Multiply the hourly rate by the hours in your working day. 25 an hour for an 8-hour day is 200 a day. Freelancers often quote a day rate slightly below 8 x their hourly rate to reward a client who books whole days.
Why do different calculators give slightly different daily rates?
Because they assume different working days. Dividing a monthly salary by 22 gives a slightly higher daily figure than dividing the yearly salary by 260, which averages 21.67 working days a month. This page uses 260 a year unless you change the days per week, and shows the part-month method separately.
