Quick answer

As of October 2026, Fiverr keeps 20% of every order, because its Help Center says freelancers receive 80% of the client's cleared payment. Buyers also pay a 5.5% service fee plus a small-order fee on cheaper orders, so on small orders Fiverr takes over a quarter of what the buyer pays; Fiverr has not announced 2027 fees yet.

As of October 2026, Fiverr keeps 20% of every order: its Help Center says freelancers receive 80% of the client's cleared payment. Buyers also pay a service fee of 5.5% of the purchase, plus $3.50 on orders under $200, so on a small order the two sides together pay Fiverr well over a quarter of the price. Fiverr has not published fees for 2027; this guide explains the current seller and buyer fees, shows what they cost on real order sizes, and says what we expect next year.

A note on the small-order fee: on 28 October 2026 Fiverr's Help Center gave two versions. Its payments article says $3.50 on orders under $200; its guide for clients says $3.00 on orders under $100. We use the payments article in the examples below. Fiverr shows the exact fee at checkout before you pay, and that is the number that counts.

Fiverr seller fees: what freelancers keep

Fiverr's commission is a flat share of the payment. It does not fall as you earn more with a client or reach a higher seller level. On every completed order, the freelancer receives 80% of what the client paid for the service, and Fiverr keeps 20%. Extras added to an order are part of what the client pays, so the same split applies.

Tips work slightly differently. Fiverr's tipping article says a tip goes to the freelancer as a separate payment, and the buyer pays Fiverr's standard service fee on it. What you receive from a tip is shown on your earnings page.

Order priceFiverr keeps (20%)You receive (80%)
$25$5.00$20.00
$50$10.00$40.00
$100$20.00$80.00
$500$100.00$400.00
$1,000$200.00$800.00

To take home a set amount, divide it by 0.8. To keep $100 from an order, price it at $125.

Fiverr buyer fees: what clients pay on top

Buyers pay a service fee on top of the price of the Gig, shown at checkout. As of October 2026 it is 5.5% of the purchase amount, plus $3.50 on orders under $200. Every payment carries its own fee, so an extra or a tip added later is charged separately.

Order priceBuyer service fee (5.5%)Small-order feeBuyer pays in total
$25$1.38$3.50$29.88
$50$2.75$3.50$56.25
$100$5.50$3.50$109.00
$250$13.75none$263.75
$500$27.50none$527.50

Fiverr may round, and fees can vary by country, currency and payment method. The checkout screen is the final word.

The total: how much of each order goes to Fiverr

Put the two sides together and the platform's total share depends heavily on the order size, because the $3.50 small-order fee weighs most on cheap orders. The arithmetic below uses the published figures above.

Order priceBuyer paysFreelancer receivesFiverr's totalShare of what the buyer paid
$25$29.88$20.00$9.8833%
$50$56.25$40.00$16.2529%
$100$109.00$80.00$29.0027%
$250$263.75$200.00$63.7524%
$500$527.50$400.00$127.5024%

For freelancers, this is the case for larger packages: a $200 package costs your buyer less in fees, proportionally, than four $50 ones.

Do seller levels or Fiverr Pro change the fee?

Not the commission. Fiverr's Help Center describes the same 80% share for freelancers without exceptions for level. What levels do change is how you work: Fiverr's guide to creating a Gig says new freelancers can have up to 4 active Gigs, Level 1 and Level 2 freelancers up to 10, and Top Rated freelancers up to 30. Programs such as Top Rated and Fiverr Pro also get a shorter clearing period than the standard 14 days. So a higher level helps you sell more and get paid sooner, but each order still pays Fiverr 20%.

A worked example: pricing one package

Say you want to take home $160 for a logo package. These are example numbers to show the method, using the published fees above:

  1. Gross up for the seller fee. $160 / 0.8 = $200. That is your package price.
  2. Check what your buyer pays. 5.5% of $200 is $11. Under the payments article, $200 is not under $200, so there is no small-order fee: the buyer pays $211.
  3. Compare with a cheaper split. Two $100 packages would each carry $5.50 plus $3.50, so $18 in buyer fees instead of $11, for the same work.

Small changes to how you package the same work can make you cheaper for buyers without lowering what you take home.

On WorkOfficially, a milestone the client funds in WRK carries no platform fee and no client service fee; card-funded work carries the fees in the table. We run WorkOfficially, so read our column with that in mind. For more options, see the best Fiverr alternatives and our fees page.

Fiverr fees for buyers: is the service fee worth it?

If you are hiring on Fiverr, the service fee buys you a few things that matter: you see the price and the delivery time before you pay, the money is held until the order is delivered, and disputes go through Fiverr's Resolution Center rather than your inbox. On small orders the fixed small-order fee makes the percentage cost high, so it is often better value to buy one larger package than several small ones from the same seller. For ongoing or custom work, compare the total with a platform where you agree a contract and pay through escrow milestone by milestone, such as the Fiverr alternatives we compare.

How to keep more of your Fiverr earnings

  1. Price for the 20%. Divide your target by 0.8 and set your packages from that.
  2. Sell bigger packages. Fewer, larger orders cost your buyers less in small-order fees and make you look like the better deal.
  3. Use extras with care. They raise the order value, but each payment carries its own buyer fee.
  4. Plan for the clearing period. Earnings arrive 14 days after an order completes for most sellers, so keep a cash buffer.
  5. Do not move orders off Fiverr. It breaks Fiverr's terms and removes your payment protection.
  6. Keep your record portable. If you add another platform, import your Fiverr reviews rather than starting from zero.

What we expect from Fiverr fees in 2027

What we expect in 2027

  • The 20% seller fee stays. It is simple, well known and central to how Fiverr earns money.
  • Buyer fees remain the part most likely to change; Fiverr's own help pages already describe the small-order fee in two different ways.
  • More sellers move clients toward larger packages and subscriptions to reduce fees per order.

These are our expectations, not Fiverr's announcements. Fiverr's Help Center and its checkout screen are the reliable sources for current fees, and we will update this page when they change.
